Sharon Renee Ames-Dennard, PH.D.

Sharon Renee Ames-Dennard, Ph. D.
is a Licensed Clinical Psychologist and consultant. She is a

1) Psychotherapist,
2) Forensic evaluator,
3) Family therapist,
4) APA certified AIDS educational trainer, &
5) Educational consultant to schools and government agencies.

Currently, she is the executive director and co-founder of the Aakhet Center and the Sakkara Youth Institute Independent School, where she is a full-time instructor of mathematics. She is a co-founder/owner of Amen-Ra's Book Shop & Gallery, The Aakhet Press publishing company, and one of the creators of the Sma Em-Abu Male/Female Relationship Retreats.

She is a consultant to the State of Florida Office of Disability Determination, and a past chair of the State of Florida Board of Psychology while serving on the board for years.

She was an adjunct instructor of psychology at Florida A&M University from 1988 to 1989 and 1990 to 1996. She served as the Director of the University Counseling Center from 2000 to 2002. She served on the Governor's commission on African American Affairs for the State of Florida.

She has been consulted by news media for commentary on issues relevant to the Black community and has been quoted in Ebony magazine, Jet magazine, Ebony Man, Journey magazine, Working Mother magazine, Family Forum magazine,USA Today and many newspaper articles. She has operated two live talk-radio shows with his her husband and appeared on national television programs such as CNN news, and local programs such as the “Vaslinda Report” on FLNEWS and “Your Voice” at WFSU/TV.

She was chosen as Working Mother magazine's “Working Mother of the Year” for 2002.

Dana KaMau Dennard, PH.D.
Dana Kheper Ka Ra KaMau Dennard, Ph.D.

is a Licensed Clinical Psychologist and consultant. He is a

1) Psychotherapist
2) Forensic evaluator
3) Family therapist
4) Substance abuse specialist
5) Certified Hypno-therapist &
6) Educational consultant to schools and government agencies.

Currently, he is the program director & co-founder of the Aakhet Center and the Sakkara Youth Institute Independent School, where he is a part-time instructor of yoga, humanities and fine art. He is a co-founder/owner of Amen-Ra's Book Shop & Gallery, The Aakhet Press publishing company, and the other creator of the Sma Em-Abu Male/Female Relationship Retreats.

He is a consultant to the State of Florida Office of Disability Determination. He was an adjunct instructor of psychology at Tallahassee Junior College and Florida A&M University from 1987 - 1989, and assistant professor at FAMU from 1990 - 1996. He returned to FAMU as an adjunct instructor of psychology in 1998 and has also taught courses in the Black Studies and Social Work departments at Florida State University.

He is the director of the Aakhet chapter of the HAWK Federation of Perfected Manhood Training; a rites of passage program. He was initiated into a kundalini yoga discipline and is a teacher of various yoga and meditation techniques.

He was the President of the National Association of Black Psychologists in 1998. He has several published articles and is the author of his first book, “The Re-Ascension of the Black Man's Mind: Coming Forth By Ra” published by The Aakhet Press.

Kha Dennard, Ed.D. (Deceased)
was a gifted teacher with over 35 years of experience in the classroom. She held certifications in music, elementary and gifted education, and administration and supervision.

She taught in all areas in grades K-10, and served as an assistant and acting principal in the public school system for 5 years. She received the "Teach for Excellence Award," in Pinellas county, "Distinguished Minority Educator Award" District finalist in Leon County, and the "Teacher of the Year " award for Palm Beach County, and was a State finalist.

Her areas of expertise were communication and academic achievement. She is the author of the text, "Special Interest Research: A Synergistic Approach", and was one of the creators of the Sakkara Youth Institute. She created the ChecMate, Inc., an educational organization utilizing the synergistic approach. She was a force behind all of the projects conceived and established by the Aakhet staff. Aside from her formal duties, she was affectionately known as “Ma Kha”, an elder/mother to many of the youth and young adults in our community.

 

Mpenda Maat Sa-Ra, M.Ed. (Deceased)
was a certified teacher and co-creator of the Kindergarten Konnection, which was the founding institute that evolved into the Sakkara Youth Institute Independent School. He was our first teacher. Over the years of his association with the Aakhet Center he taught children of all ages, emotionally handicapped youth, and was a director of the Sakkara Youth Institute Summer Program. He was a dedicated and dynamic Hersetha (trainer) of the HAWK Federation and student/participant of African dance.
