The Aakhet Center is a unique, culturally anchored, community oriented mental health facility which serves as a meeting place for many activities to enhance the African-American community. The center is located in Tallahassee, Florida between two universities.

The directors are licensed clinical psychologists/consultants with expertise in a broad range of skills including:

• psychotherapy techniques with emphasis on family intervention
• test and evaluation procedures
• forensic evaluation
• clinical hypnosis
• substance abuse treatment
• program evaluation
• the creation of new innovative programs promoting growth and development within and among persons of African descent.

The philosophy of the Aakhet staff is rooted in African-centered thought and assumes that good mental health is achieved through the

• wholistic development of all institutions which collectively influence the lifestyles embraced by individuals.
• cultural clarity which prescribes allegiance to the collective agenda of African descent peoples.
• adherence to standards of excellence and appropriateness of behavior in context.
